The Elder
It's November again. Watching the leaves fall, my heart always breaks a little. What a long time it will be until spring and leaves return. Now, the skeletons of the trees are visible again and their bony arms reach for the weak, cold sunshine.
This ancient tree really engages the imagination. It lives in Fall City, Washington. It's almost as if you can see its bones. Is it two figures trapped together in time? Is it a great and wise spirit that carries the scars of the years but knows more than all of us? If you were a rabbit and you stepped through that hole, where would it take you?
